We are proud to announce we have invested in our first MEI Easyfit Trend, with dry cut edging technology. This machine is part of our future planning to maintain and improve quality while also aiming to boost capacity Although we could have chosen to do this with more traditional equipment, we chose this technology for its greener credentials as we at DSW Optical work towards a more sustainable future.

At DSW Optical we have chosen EasyFit Trend in part as it is the only lens cutting machine able to edge every kind of bevel, including rimless, supra, step back, T bevel…. It also allows our technicians to create cut out sections and unique shapes, and to with work every inclination (up to base 16) in one single process. When we combine this with our decades of experience within our team, it allows us to create a truly flexible bespoke finish in our glazing facility. Further to this our technicians can also extend the lens engraving services we offer, by adding bespoke pictures and text designs created by the wearer.

This is all achieved by with advanced Milling Technology

Extreme precision with no rework

DSW is doing all it can to move to a more ecologically balanced future, so investing in a dry cut edger allows us to eliminate water having to be used on it, almost entirely and removes the need for filtering devices. We also remove the need for blocks and pads, as the edger uses vacuum suction, actually making it significantly less likely to slip off axis when applied to modern hydrophobic coatings.

Dry Cut = No water to cut lenses                     No Block = Blocks and pads are eliminated

No water to cut lenses potentially saving 1 million litters / 264k gallons a year, based on figures from MEI

Although all our work is manually checked at all stages of production, and will continue to be, the edger is fitted with an integrated lensometer to check the lenses going in and after cutting, acting as an extra layer of quality control.
